Lap Band Patient, Gayle Muller |
By golly I made it. Was banded on 7/19/02 at the ripe old age of 64 and with every co morbidity you could come up with. Type II diabetes (95 units of NPH daily) hypertension, degenerative arthritis, yeast infections everywhere Hi cholesterol. It was all going south in a hurry. Then I saw a full page ad by Bioenterics in the Diabetes Forecast magazine. That's for me. Started my investigation and like hundreds of other started running into the walls. Could not afford self pay. Found out about Mexico. Research, research, research. Found Dr. Ortiz. Thank God, because I was old, I wanted the best chance for survival there was out there. Dr. O had the skills and ability to get me thru this. What a cultural shock Mexico was for me. All in a positive light. It was the most positive medical experience I have ever had. The fact that the Dr. actually cares about you and checks on you and wants to hear from you was something I had not experienced here in the states. So here I am two years later from a hand full of pills am and pm to just 10 units NPH in the pm. I am hoping to lose 5 to 10 more lbs to kick the needle habit also.
